The Sligo community and those with connections to Killybegs, Co. Donegal, are mourning the sudden death of Noreen McGowan (née O’Rourke), who passed away unexpectedly at her home on August 13, 2026.

Noreen, of Mountain Close, Cartron Point, Sligo, was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, relative, and friend. Her unexpected passing has left her family and wider circle facing a profound sense of loss.

She was the beloved wife of Ted McGowan and a devoted mother to Stephen, alongside Aoife Walsh, and Nicole Carr, alongside Gary. Her family remained central to her life, and the love she shared with them will continue through the memories they hold.

Noreen was also a cherished grandmother to Theo, Myles, and Darcie Carr. Her grandchildren held a special place in her life, and they will carry forward the memories of the time they shared with her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Eugene and Florence, as well as her brothers Eugene and Francis, her sister Joan, and David, who were remembered with love by the family.

Noreen will be sadly missed by her husband Ted, children Nicole and Stephen, brothers Joe, David, Con, Timmy, Jimmy, and Kevin, sister Caroline, grandchildren, in-laws, nephews, nieces, extended relatives, neighbours, and many friends.

Her death has brought sadness to the Sligo community and to people connected with her through Killybegs and County Donegal. For those closest to her, the sudden nature of her passing has made the loss especially difficult to process.

In the days ahead, family and friends will find comfort in the memories created with Noreen and in the relationships that remained an important part of her life. The conversations, family gatherings, shared occasions, and everyday moments will become lasting reminders of the place she held in the hearts of those who loved her.

Although her passing has created an absence that cannot easily be filled, Noreen’s memory will continue through her family, grandchildren, relatives, friends, neighbours, and everyone whose life she touched.

She will be remembered with affection, gratitude, and love by all who knew her.

May Noreen McGowan rest in peace, and may her family find strength and comfort during this difficult time.
