John William Mann, a beloved husband, father, attorney, son, brother, uncle, and friend, died unexpectedly on August 8, 2026, in Salt Lake City, Utah, following a medical event while training for his next race. He was 48 years old.

His sudden passing has left his family, friends, colleagues, and wider community mourning a man remembered for his devotion to family, faith, friendships, service, and his accomplished legal career.

John was born on March 13, 1978, in Salt Lake City to Shauna Sybrowsky Mann and William Jay Mann. He grew up with his older sister, Kristin, and younger brother, Jared. From the age of five, he was raised by his mother and his grandfather, John Sybrowsky, who played a significant role in his upbringing.

Faith became an important part of John’s life. As a young man, he served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Austria Vienna Mission, an experience that strengthened the beliefs and values he carried throughout his life.

John met Liz while working at the University of Utah. The couple married on May 22, 2003, in the Salt Lake Temple, beginning a family life that would become one of the most important parts of John’s journey.

He graduated from the University of Utah in 2002 and later earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Oregon School of Law in 2007. He went on to build a successful legal career and most recently served as a partner at Kirton McConkie.

Although John achieved considerable professional success, those who knew him also remembered the importance he placed on relationships. Throughout his legal career, he developed friendships and professional connections that remained meaningful to him.

Away from the courtroom and workplace, John was devoted to his wife and children. His family remained at the heart of his life, and the memories they created together will now become a source of comfort as they face his unexpected absence.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Mann; his children, Elder John Benjamin Mann, Jacob Zachary Mann, and Clare Elizabeth Mann; his mother, Shauna Sybrowsky Mann; his father, William “Bill” Mann; his sister, Kristin Acree; his brother, Jared (Amber) Mann; along with nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many friends.

His unexpected death has brought an especially painful loss to those closest to him. For his family, colleagues, and friends, John will be remembered for much more than his professional accomplishments.

He leaves behind a legacy shaped by faith, family, love, service, friendship, and dedication. The impact of his life will continue through his wife and children, relatives, colleagues, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to have known him.

As those who loved John William Mann mourn his passing, they will carry forward the memories of a husband, father, attorney, and friend whose life touched many people in meaningful ways.
